Keke Palmer went from dancing with Usher to dancing like Usher. Palmer performed a musical tribute to Usher at last night’s BET Awards, a year after her ex-boyfriend went viral for failing to mind his business while she attended the R&B star’s Vegas residency. At the time, ex Darius Jackson took issue with Palmer’s styling choices at the concert where she danced with Usher, tweeting, “It’s the outfit tho.. you a mom.” For her BET Awards performance, Palmer did renditions of “You Don’t Have to Call” with Childish Gambino and “You Make Me Wanna” in a bedazzled bustier and low-rise baggy jeans, moving her body with Usher-inspired choreography. Considering the context, it can’t be a coincidence that she chose songs with lyrics about partying without your partner and leaving the one you’re with.
Elsewhere in the tribute, Summer Walker covered “Good Good,” Marsha Ambrosius sang “Superstar,” Chlöe did “Good Kisser,” Tinashe made it “Nice & Slow,” Teyana Taylor and Victoria Monet dueted “Bad Girl,” and Latto closed with “Yeah.” Wonder what the former Mr. Keke Palmer thought about the show.
