TikTok may be back for now, but its sister app CapCut is still in jail. In the meantime, Instagram has announced their new video editing software, Instagram Edits. IG CEO Adam Mosseri announced the CapCut competitor in, what else, a Reel. “There’s a lot going on right now, but no matter what happens, it’s our job to provide the best possible tools for creators,” he said. “Edits is more than a video editing app; it’s a full suite of creative tools.” These tools include tabs for inspo and drafts, a “much higher-quality camera,” editing tools, and “powerful insights” into how videos made with Edits perform on Instagram. Per the Verge, these insights include a follower:non-follower ratio and tracking how often users skip your content. That’ll be great for the ol’ self esteem. Edits will come to the App Store March 13, 2025. Meanwhile, CapCut’s existence hangs in the balance.
