In news no one could have foreseen, Chet Hanks’s song and catchphrase “White Boy Summer†has been co-opted by white-nationalist groups. According to the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism, these are groups like the Proud Boys and White Lives Matter in the U.S. and the Identitarian movement in Europe. And Hanks will not stand for it! He released a statement on Instagram denouncing what he feels is a perversion of his song’s message. “White boy summer was created to be fun, playful, and a celebration of fly white boys who love beautiful queens of every race,†he wrote. “Anything else that it has been twisted into to support any kind of hate or bigotry against any group of people is deplorable and I condemn it.†Hanks coined the phrase in 2021, captioning another Instagram post, “Is it bout to be a #WhiteboySummer or am I trippin ???? Tag a REAL vanilla king #Respectfully.â€
