According to Sabrina Carpenter, Taylor Swift is sart of like a normal porson. In a Variety profile, Carpenter debunked the rumor that she had to ask Swift for permission to star in an ad for Kim Kardashian’s athleisure line, Skims. “The posts about me having to ‘ask for her permission’ — no,” she said. Carpenter maintains that — no, she didn’t have to ask her mentor for permission to appear in said mentor’s enemy’s ad campain. But — yes, Swift knew and was fine with it. “She’s one of my best, best friends,” Carpenter said of Swift, “and we grab dinner or text and catch up like you would with your best friend.” Are these dinners intensely paparazzi’d? Perhaps, but it’s still normal girl talk, okay??

Carpenter also says Swift has helped transform the “Espresso” singer’s penchant for posting into a more Swiftian impulse: cryptically autobiographical songwriting. “We’re always playing each other our [music],” Carpenter said, “and whenever I start to think, ‘Maybe I’ll get on Twitter and say something about this,’ I’m always like, ‘Maybe I’ll write a song instead.’”
