Kendrick likes Drake with the melodies, but are these the melodies he wanted the OV … er, rapper to sing? Drake released a new track unto the public in the late hours of Monday, June 3, featuring in a “Hey There Delilah†Soundcloud remix by Snowd4y. Titled “Wah Gwan Delilah,†the new drop is part love song, part Toronto anthem, with Snowd4y comparing thee beloved not to a summer’s day but to Dundas Square and name-dropping other local landmarks. “Wake up the city,†Drake captioned his Instagram Story promoting the track. Unlike the Plain White T’s Delilah, who took off to New York City, this one lives so deep in the 6 that the singer has to finesse public transit to link up because they don’t have enough funds on their Presto card. There’s a vague threat in the chorus where Snowd4y sings, “Oh, don’t you be acting mean / Oh, there’s a .40 in my jeans.†Is this a veiled threat?
Drake’s verse is just as unserious. He’s stuck in traffic, showing pics of Delilah to his friend who “knows a man that slapped it,†and taking her on double dates with a “cro’nem for your bestie.†Did Kendrick scare him away from the word crodie? By the end of the song, the pair have moved on from Delilah to Sabrina, comparing her to Toronto’s Square One mall instead. I think we’re supposed to laugh.
