Elton John Could Not See His West End Show Premiere

At the premiere of The Devil Wears Prada musical on the West End, Sir Elton John said he has lost his sight. “As some of you may know, I have had issues and now I have lost my sight. I haven’t been able to see the performance but I have enjoyed it,†he told the crowd. He was then helped off the stage by his husband, David Furnish. John thanked Furnish. “To my husband, who’s been my rock because I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews,†he said, “it’s hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it and it sounded good tonight.â€

John has been struggling with his vision since this summer. He shared on Instagram in September that an infection had left him with only limited vision in one eye. “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye,†he wrote. In a Good Morning America interview, John said he cannot read lyrics or watch much of anything, and it has impacted his ability to make more music. “There’s hope and encouragement that it will be okay, but I’m kind of stuck at the moment,†he said. “Going into the studio and recording, I don’t know…â€
