What a way to start a YouTube channel.
With her first contribution, writer-director Alexandra Warrick has already sparked interest among a truly disproportionate number of subscribers. Currently viewed over 12,000 times, “questions (or: peanut butter)†is a haunted house of a short, almost relentless buildup finally triggered by the last thing you’d ever expect. In fact, “questions (or: peanut butter)†may boast the best comedic crescendo I’ve had the pleasure of covering this year.
It all starts familiar enough: Boy (Jack Doyle) meets girl (Simone Grossman) on a first date. Boy seems to be wooing girl. But then boy asks girl a really weird question: Would she have sex with someone completely covered in peanut butter? Huge faux pas, right? One would think. But boy seems unaware or unwilling to accept his transgression. More questions about peanut-butter sex follow, leaving us to wonder just where the fuck this is all headed … for multiple minutes. Until it happens. A truly transcendent turn that could only be borne out of such commitment to a bit.
What is it? What’s the pivotal point that moves this from masturabatory to memorable? Well, you’ll just have to watch.
