This is not a giggling matter. Hannah Berner, of the podcast Giggly Squad, apologized on her Instagram Story for an interview she conducted during the Vanity Fair’s Oscars after-party of Megan Thee Stallion. “Interviewing Megan Thee Stallion was a dream of mine,” she wrote on March 6. “I love her music and it’s my go to whenever I need to boost my confidence before a show.” She came under controversy for the interview, which she conducted alongside her co-host, Paige DeSorbo, for a “microaggressive” characterization of Megan’s music. “When I wanna fight someone, I legit listen to your music,” she told Megan. During the interview, the rapper responded in a way that could be perceived as a corrective, singing “Body-ody-ody, I look beautiful, I look so great,” Megan said, describing her music.

“I wish I used any other word except ‘fight’ to describe how her songs impact me,” Berner said in her apology. “It was a careless choice of words and though there was no ill intent, I recognize and acknowledge that what I said has a deeper meaning and I am so sorry to Megan. I appreciate everyone who brought this to my attention.” Among the dissenters, CBS Boston correspondent Penny Kmitt opined that “we need to stop replacing journalists with influencers in these types of situations.” Megan has yet to directly respond to the controversy, and is instead probably busying herself with the most insane workouts known to man.
