Current U.S. president Joe Biden needed to go on a talk show that didn’t tape past his bedtime. This landed him a quick trip to visit Alyssa Farah Griffin and her opinionated friends on The View, and in doing so, he became just the second sitting U.S. president to visit the talk show (Obama went on in 2010) and the first to do so live. During his September 25 appearance, Biden played the typical hits — he called Donald Trump a “loser,†and he called Kamala Harris “smart as hell.†But the greatest moment was a rambling monologue about (what else?) age. “I stepped down because I started thinkin’ about it,†President Biden said. “It’s hard to think —†then he turned to the 35-year-old Griffin. “I know you’re only 30, but it’s hard for me to even say how old I am.†“Why is that?†asked Joy Behar, who is the same age as Biden. “I give my word, it’s like, ‘Holy God, that can’t be right.’†Watching Biden talk about his age, it is easy both to imagine him as a lovable grandpa and also to be very glad that he is not currently running for president.
