Sorry, y’all. Per The Hollywood Reporter, Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2 won’t hit theaters on August 16 as scheduled. This is reportedly intended to be a delay, not a cancellation, though a new release date has not yet been announced. A spokesperson for New Line Cinema explained to THR that the Horizon 2 was pulled from the release calendar “in order to give audiences a greater opportunity to discover the first installment of Horizon over the coming weeks.†Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1, which cost $100 million to make, made just $11 million during its opening weekend in late June and has so far only brought in around $22.6 million total. The first Horizon movie will now be available to watch on demand on July 16, and will later also stream on Max. Costner’s Territory Pictures said in a statement that it welcomes the “opportunity for that window [for people to watch Horizon 1] to be expanded as we know it will only serve to enhance the experience of seeing Horizon 2.†Meanwhile, Costner is already working on the third movie of what he wants to be a four-part franchise. We’re sure he’s hoping there will be enough audience interest to keep all his plans on the horizon.
