Who Is Miss Huang’s Outie, Sarah Bock?

We all know what Miss Huang’s innie is like on Severance: smart, serious, lover of the theremin. But what about her outie, Sarah Bock? Bock is an actress from North Carolina, and Severance is her first television-series role; she previously starred in the original Hulu movie Bruiser in 2022. She auditioned when she was 15, and her parents were huge fans of the show. But what’s Bock doing on the outside, how has her outie been handling her newfound fame, and do others share her love of touchless instruments? Please try to enjoy all of her fun facts equally.

While Miss Huang is an expert on all things Lumon, some of the set pieces were history lessons for Bock. “Miss Huang, she has a phone on a desk and it has the little keyboard,” Bock explained in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel as someone in the audience screamed, probably becoming hyperaware of the age gap between them and Gen Z. “I didn’t know how to use that.” Kimmel then asked if she knew what a rotary phone was, to Bock’s confusion. She has to remind the audience that she’s a teenager, not a historian.

Right now, Bock studies psychology and theater at Northwestern (she’s not a child, okay!). In an interview with Northwestern’s social-media page, Bock shared that one of her co-stars inspired her to apply to the university. “When I was looking at colleges, Britt Lower, who plays Helly on the show, she’s an alum of here and she kind of suggested it — she slid it in there — and she thought I might be a good fit for Northwestern.” However, she thinks her Severance character would not follow the same path as her: “She would not be a theater major.”
