Qigong - the art of energy control

Description

The Chinese believe that physical wellbeing will lead to spiritual and mental wellbeing. That’s why many older people practise qigong, the Daoist art of energy control, in the park every morning. Children, too, routinely do physical exercises in the playground. We also learn how the Chinese introduce themselves with the surname first, and the importance of choosing a meaningful name.

Classroom Ideas

Students can talk about their knowledge of different kinds of Chinese exercise before watching the clip, such as T’ai chi or Qigong. Ask questions about Qigong before watching the clip, such as “what is the purpose of Qigong, and what equipment do the Chinese use to practice Qigong”. Students can find answers in the clip.
