CBBC Easter recipe: Make your own Easter egg from scratch!
Who needs to buy an Easter egg when you can make your very own with some chocolate and a balloon!? Follow Oli the Choc's instructions and you can make these special Easter treats at home!

- 2 large bowls
- Greaseproof paper
- 300g of milk chocolate (plus a bit extra for covering the hole!)
- 1 biodegradable balloon
- Wooden skewer
Instructions
Break 2/3 of the chocolate into a bowl.
Put the bowl in the microwave for 30 seconds then take it out and stir. Repeat this in 30 seconds bursts until the chocolate has melted.
To reduce the temperature, add a few pieces of the remaining chocolate into the bowl and mix until melted. Continue to do this until all the chocolate has been used.
The chocolate will be ready to use when you can touch it to your lip and it feels cool.
This process is called tempering the chocolate!

Inflate the balloon to the size you want your egg to be and tie it at the end.
Gently clean the balloon with warm soapy water and dry off.
Dip and roll the balloon in the melted chocolate until it's covered in a layer of chocolate.

Hang the balloon by the nozzle (the end bit) on the wooden skewer over a large empty bowl.
Leave to set for around five minutes until the chocolate turns a dull brown colour.

Gently remove the balloon from the skewer and cover it in another layer of melted chocolate.
Hang the balloon back on the skewer over the large bowl again until it turns a dull brown colour.
Repeat these two steps for a third time so your balloon is covered in three layers of chocolate!
Leave your balloon to set overnight in a cool place

In the morning, check the chocolate has set by tapping it gently with the skewer.
Use the wooden skewer to gently pierce the balloon next to the nozzle.
Peel the popped balloon away from the chocolate and remove it.

If you want to fill your chocolate egg with treats or a special message pop this into the hole at the top.

For this part you will need to make a some more tempered chocolate. Go back to the top of these instructions and follow the first steps again to temper your chocolate. You will only need to use a few cubes of chocolate for this.
Spread a thick layer of the tempered chocolate onto greaseproof paper. This layer needs to be slightly larger than the hole at the top of the egg.
Just as the chocolate is stating to set, place it over the hole at the top of the egg, chocolate side down!
Leave to set then peel off the greaseproof paper.

You can decorate your egg however you like. You could use chocolates, fruit, sweets or icing sugar. Perhaps you could add a pattern or an Easter bunny...or maybe you could make it look just like someone in your family!
