Sustainable travel and outdoor brand Cotopaxi constructs its clothes from colorful recycled fabric offcuts and guarantees its gear for a lifetime of reasonable use (there’s a repair program as well as a trade-in scheme for used items.) Those sustainability credentials aside, it also just designs clever and functional stuff, like our favorite carry-on backpack that opens up like a suitcase.
All of this does mean that Cotopaxi’s products are typically on the pricey side, which is why the brand’s sale section is worth taking a look at right now. Plenty of its clothing and gear is deeply discounted, and you can use the code EXTRA10 to get an additional 10 percent off.
Let me first draw your attention to the best deal on this list, Cotopaxi’s excellent (and rarely on sale) Allpa travel pack for $75 off. Our Best in Class carry-on backpack, it unzips suitcase-style to reveal three different compression compartments that make it easy to stay organized while you’re on the road.
For those who prefer suitcases that roll, Mark Smith, who runs global train travel guide The Man From Seat 61, recently told me that two-wheeled ones like this are the best kind to use on the cobblestone streets of Europe.
I spotted several big duffel bags on sale as well, including this cylindrical one with a zipped compartment on one end that can quarantine a pair of shoes.
Wearing a crossbody bag that’s big enough to hold a tablet is a really underrated packing strategy, especially for business travelers.
This half-zip fleece has a nice high collar and is lightweight enough to be layered. And it’s made from 100 percent recycled materials.
Or for ten bucks more, a fleece with retro ’90s-style buttons.
And I really like the “cowboy coffee” shade of brown that the men’s version comes in.
I’m the Strategist’s resident parka tester and researcher, and this one meets all of my criteria for a warm winter jacket. It has a high fill-power rating, a big hood, and thumb holes for extra coziness.
Or here’s a packable (but still very warm) down jacket that’s more ideal for hiking and travel. And available in extended sizing.
This down vest would make for an ideal mid-layer and is notably on sale in black as well as Cotopaxi’s more typical rainbow colorways.
I found a few worthwhile deals on kids’ clothing, too, including this jacket for under $50. May as well fleece up the whole family.
Size up and this’ll last a couple of seasons, and they’ll be plenty warm thanks to the 600-fill responsibly sourced down packed inside.
