George Clooney to Stare at Goats
Clooney Gets His Goat: Grant Heslov casts his buddy George Clooney in the adaptation of Jon Ronson’s hilarious book Men Who Stare at Goats, the story of the U.S. Army’s First Earth Battalion, a squad directed to develop paranormal powers, including killing goats by staring at them. Casting of Clooney ensures, however, that on-set goats will all simply fall deeply in love after encountering Clooney’s soulful gaze. [Variety]
To Ramona: Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Live Free or Die Hard) is in talks to join Michael Cera in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, playing Ramona Flowers, the delivery girl who steals Scott’s heart. No word yet on who will play her seven evil ex-boyfriends, but we’re betting Jonah Hill is gonna end up on the list. [HR]
Glover Returns to Fugard: Danny Glover will reprise his Broadway role in a film adaptation of Athol Fugard’s Master Harold … and the Boys. Lonny Price, who played opposite Glover in 1982 and directed him on Broadway in 2003, will direct. We assume Glover will be playing the old guy he played five years ago, not the young guy he played in 1982. But maybe through movie magic he’ll play both! [Variety]
All-Black Cat to Screen: Producer Stephen Byrd will bring his Broadway Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, starring James Earl Jones, Phylicia Rashad, and Terrence Howard, to the screen, with shooting planned for 2009. This is one of those Variety articles that doesn’t really have any details or anything, and as you read it you realize that there’s probably actually no solid plans to film Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, but people really want to so they figured they might as well tell Variety about it. Banks Goes A Cappella: Universal acquires the rights to Mickey Rapkin’s nonfiction book Pitch Perfect, the story of a year in the life of a collegiate a cappella singing group. Elizabeth Banks will produce. Or should we say: E-LIIIIZZZ-abeth Banks (bow bow bow bow) will (chicka sssshhh chicka sssshhh) pro-(dum dum dum)-duce! (Sound of crash cymbal.) [HR]
