Reynolds Down Under: Ryan Reynolds, whom we guess is now actually a movie star with the box-office success of both The Proposal and Wolverine, will follow those up with the indie flick Buried. He’ll play a civilian contractor in Iraq who is kidnapped and wakes up in a coffin in the desert with only a cell phone, a candle, and a knife. Just to be safe, Sandra Bullock and Hugh Jackman will be in the coffin also. [Variety]
Cowell and Green Is the Power Team: Simon Cowell and Topshop honcho Philip Green are in talks to do something together … although what, exactly, is not clear. The team-up is being described as “a possible business combining television and entertainment,†which sounds pretty genius to us. [HR]
Watchmen Again: A slightly modified version of Watchmen, the mostly panned, financially disappointing adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’s seminal eighties comic book, is headed back to theaters for a week on July 17 in Dallas, L.A., Minneapolis, and New York. Will it be streamlined, more coherent, and more palatable to mainstream audiences unfamiliar with the source material? Nope! It’s Zack Snyder’s director’s cut and it’s 25 minutes longer than the original. Does Snyder have illicit hot-tub photos of someone at Warner Bros., or what? [Variety]
Yimmy: Jim James, the wild-haired My Morning Jacket front man, will release a solo George Harrison tribute E.P. under the name Yim Yames. The set, out August 4 via ATO Records, was recorded a few days after Harrison’s death in 2001 and features covers of six Harrison tunes, including “Love You To,†“All Things Must Pass,†and “Long, Long, Long.†James is also releasing a long-talked-about collaborative album with Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis, and M. Ward. That will be out September 22 on Shangri-La Music under the moniker Monsters of Folk — not, unfortunately, as per our write-in request, Yim Yames and the Gang. [Billboard]
TV’s Don: Veteran television actor Eddie Cibrian — who made some Us Weekly headlines recently when he had an affair with his (Hallmark Channel original movie) Healing Hands co-star LeAnn Rimes — has signed on as a regular on CSI: Miami. Cibrian will play a new officer in the Miami division who transferred from the Hollywood office. Talk about combining television with entertainment! [HR]
