John Hughes’s school-evading, sports-car-borrowing childhood friend Edward McNally, believed to be the real-life inspiration for Ferris Bueller, wrote a piece in yesterday’s Washington Post remembering the deceased director. McNally is a lawyer and a former speechwriter for the first president Bush and, as Movieline points out, in 2006 he was suspected of an ethical violation by then-senator Obama, and in 2007 was one of the Bush buddies appointed by Alberto Gonzalez to a U.S. attorneyship. Now we just feel terrible for laughing when Mr. Rooney got attacked by that dog. [WP via Movieline]
