When we woke up this morning, we had no idea that we’d be spending the majority of our day writing about movie trailers. Alas, such is life; for that, we humbly apologize. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, it’s time to watch the trailer for Date Night, the highly anticipated big-screen coupling of the two shiniest staples of NBC’s Thursday-night lineup, Steve Carell and Tina Fey. And you know what? If we’re being honest with you (which we are at least 60 percent of the time), we can’t say that we’re exactly fired up about it. In addition to the egregious use of Nickelback on the soundtrack, it looks to us like little more than an adults-only version of Adventures in Babysitting, wherein “regular†suburban folks find themselves in a whole heap of the kind of trouble that only occurs in the “big city.†Also, don’t go nuts on us for saying this, but both Steve Carell and Tina Fey seem like the kind of actors who connect better with audiences on television than they do in the medium of film. In particular, we are tiring of that “I’m going to raise my voice and talk really loud and you will consider that ACTING!†thing that Carell does in film (see also: Get Smart, Anchorman, Bruce Almighty). Just us?
