Warner Bros. Wins a Bidding War for a Teen Ocean’s 11

Warner Bros. has emerged as the winner in a bidding war against Paramount and Summit for rights to the upcoming Ally Carter book, Heist Society. For those of you who are not 13-year-old girls or pretending to be one online, the pseudonymous Carter (really Cheating at Solitaire author Sarah Leigh Fogleman) is the author of the wildly popular Gallagher Girls spies-in-training series. Heist Society, which comes out next week and is not a Gallagher book, has been described to Vulture as an Ocean’s 11 for teens: The 15-year-old daughter of two international art thieves has “retired†from the family business, but when her dad’s life is in danger, she assembles a crew of prep-school thieves to steal back a mobster’s priceless art collection before … really, need we go on? Vulture also hears that Shauna Cross — who adapted her own autobiographical account of her roller-derby years, Derby Girl, into last year’s Whip It — has been hired to write the Heist screenplay. It will be produced by Denise DiNovi, who knows something about what makes girls go “aw†after making the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants movies.
