Lantern, Punch Hop On the 3-D Bandwagon

In news that should please Martin Scorsese, two upcoming high-profile action films — The Green Lantern and Sucker Punch — will be released in 3-D, Warner Bros. announced today. Lantern, starring Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, is out June 2011; Zach Snyder’s Sucker Punch is due March 2011. The studio previously announced that Clash of the Titans and the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be converted into 3-D before they are released this year.

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, out this weekend, is the first film since Avatar to be released in 3-D; Times critic Manohla Dargis was not a fan, writing in her review that the 3-D in the film “distracts more than it delights.†While we tend to agree with Dargis about the technology’s drawback, it’s hard to complain about getting the chance to see Reynolds and Lively’s physiques in three dimensions.
