Even though the Beach Boys, and Brian Wilson in particular, would make for prime Oscar-bait biopic material (musical genius deaf in one ear revolutionizes pop music, goes crazy, gets it together, there’s laughter, tears, betrayal, triumph, etc., etc.), we’re all going to have to live through a Beach Boys jukebox musical first. Fox 2000 has just signed a deal to make a film that will be to the Beach Boys what Mamma Mia! is to ABBA. The movie will use Beach Boys songs as part of a fictional story line that will involve lots of “surf and fun,†and, we can only hope, an extremely well-respected actor delivering the campiest performance of his/her life.
