One might not expect a Wiz Khalifa song called “Roll Up,” off his forthcoming record Rolling Papers, to be a really sweet song about being there for a girl (“Whenever you need me, whenever you want me, you know you can call me, I’ll be there shortly … whenever you call baby, I roll up”), but there it is. Weed rhymes have been set aside, catchy-emo sentiments picked up instead, and in this instance it doesn’t sound like a bad trade. The song is produced by Stargate, the guy who did Khalifa’s “Black and Yellow,” but also Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable,” a song “Roll Up” shares a mood with and is just as easy to imagine on the radio. (Also, it sounds like a warm-weather jam, so close your eyes and feel summer.) Wiz Khalifa, still on track to be very famous, very soon.
