The story of Jeff Buckley — a handsome singer with an ethereal voice who tragically drowned at age 30 after the release of his breakthrough first album, Grace — has long intrigued Hollywood, and Brad Pitt tried for years to develop it into a biopic. Back then, he met with resistance from Buckley’s mother, Mary Guibert (who controls her son’s estate and has released many posthumous Buckley CDs), but now Guibert has settled on filmmaker Jake Scott (Welcome to the Rileys) to tell the story, and production is set to begin this fall. But who should play the singer? (Since there’s no way any actor can replicate Buckley’s unearthly timbre — in other words, there’s gonna be a lot of lip-synching — feel free to cast a wide net when speculating.) [Deadline]
