The Battle Between the Snow White Movies Heats Up

For a while there, it seemed like Snow White and the Huntsman was in danger of being an also-ran: Though it had attached Kristen Stewart as Snow White and Charlize Theron as the evil queen, it couldn’t find a star to play the huntsman, and its December 2012 release date meant that another Snow White project — this one directed by Tarsem and starring Lily Collins, Julia Roberts, and Armie Hammer — would beat it to the box office by six months. But not so fast! After announcing this weekend that Thor star Chris Hemsworth would play the huntsman, Universal decided to make a bold scheduling move, and now Huntsman will open June 1 (swapping release dates with Universal’s Judd Apatow movie This Is Forty), four weeks earlier than its June 29 rival. Can’t we get Syfy in on this, too? Think of it: a low-budget Snow White vs. Croclion, airing in mid-June!
