NBC earned a lot of buzz at upfronts because of the decision to hold the second season of The Voice and the highly anticipated premiere of Smash until mid-season, but there’s also one more secret weapon the Peacock is hoping to deploy at that late date: The Firm, a legal thriller based on the John Grisham novel, which was already adapted into a Tom Cruise movie back in 1991. Its mid-season berth is a vote of confidence since no pilot has been shot yet, but NBC just took a significant step by entering into talks with Josh Lucas to topline the series, reports EW.
