Bradley Cooper might be stepping into George Clooney’s role, and not just as an object of desire and general gadabout. Cooper’s now the front-runner to play Napoleon Solo in Steven Soderbergh’s The Man From U.N.C.L.E., according to Variety. Soderbergh’s and Cooper’s dance cards are both pretty full, but it looks like TMFU would start shooting in the spring, in between Cooper wrapping Paradise Lost and Soderbergh starting the HBO Liberace movie. Napoleon Solo’s sort of a James Bond–y guy, and where Clooney’s suave, Cooper’s a little scrappy, but sure, given that we’re all resigned to the idea of a Man from U.N.C.L.E. movie, then Cooper seems like a perfectly acceptable actor. The question remains, though: Who’s going to play Illya? [Variety]
