On Friday it was announced that Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore, Sonic Youth’s married co-founders, are splitting up. Their spokesperson immediately put out a statement that the indie-rock band would still complete its five-date South American tour in November, but that “plans beyond that are uncertain.†Gordon and Moore, who have been married for 27 years, had just come out with their sixteenth album, The Eternal, in 2009, which Rolling Stone awarded a four-star review. “The Eternal sums up almost everything this band has done over three decades, punk sneers and psychedelic guitars pimping a proudly pretentious belief in rock as art.†[Reuters]
