If we were betting folks, we’d put money on ABC ordering up more episodes of new shows Suburgatory and Revenge real soon. That’s because both shows did quite well in the ratings Wednesday night. In the 8:30 p.m. slot, the third broadcast of Suburgatory drew 8.8 million viewers and averaged a 3.0 ratings with folks under 50; that’s pretty much steady with last week and marks the third consecutive week the show has bettered its Middle lead-in. Then, at 10 p.m., Revenge attracted 8 million viewers and rebounded to a 2.7 demo rating, up 13 percent from last week and big enough to win the time slot with younger audiences. Boosting Revenge: a strong performance by Happy Endings, where the appearance of Tammy No. 2 (sometimes known as Megan Mullally) helped increase demo ratings by 18 percent versus last week, even though Modern Family was flat week to week. ABC’s shows probably benefited a bit from the fact that a baseball overrun caused Fox to ditch last night’s planned episode of The X Factor, but still: Suburgatory and Revenge seemed to have found solid audience bases, and with ABC desperately in need of new blood, extending the lives of these shows for the rest of the season seems a no-brainer.
