She’s a Broadway star you might recognize for playing Glinda in Wicked and Doralee Rhodes in 9 to 5: The Musical, but soon, Megan Hilty may be best-known for her role in Smash. The NBC series, which premiered its pilot last night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, follows a group of theater folk who are working to stage a Marilyn Monroe musical, and it also stars Debra Messing, Anjelica Huston, Katharine McPhee, and fellow stage actor Christian Borle. “It’s so great that they cast people from the theater community,†Hilty told us. “Because we can actually say, ‘No, it’s like this. We would sit like this,’ or ‘We would say it like that.’ I mean, of course, we take some liberties for dramatic effect — we’re not doing a reality TV show. But for the most part, it’s extremely authentic.†We’ll see for ourselves soon enough: The show begins airing on NBC February 6.
