Mythbusters Proves That Jack Didn’t Have to Die, James Cameron Is Heartless

To recap, the Titanic “They Both Could Have Fit†theory goes like this: That wooden plank was very large and could have accommodated both Jack and Rose. No one had to die (besides, you know, all the other Titanic passengers who did not have access to a floating device). The theory has been discussed ad nauseum on the Internet, and last month James Cameron finally responded, explaining that it wasn’t a question of room, but of buoyancy — had Jack climbed onto the plank, the whole thing would have sunk. It’s science. Cue the good people at Mythbusters, who devoted a segment to this claim and discovered that if Rose had just strapped her life jacket under the plank, the added buoyancy could easily have supported an extra body. What say you, James Cameron? “The script says Jack dies. He has to die.†Okay, everybody, on the count of three: Boooooooooo, James Cameron.
