The Academy entered the brave new world of online voting this year, and with one week left in the Oscar voting period, the reports on the system are … uninspiring. As in, The Hollywood Reporter has multiple sources describing the site as a “disaster.†For its part, the Academy claims that most of the issues come from members “forgetting or misusing passwords,†which is a kind way of blaming old age; the members themselves claim that the passwords don’t work. While we’re at it, this description of the voting system — there’s only a password, basically — seems wildly susceptible to outside interference. Hope you’re ready for a Hobbit sweep!
