‘Hot Tub Time Machine 2’ Is Something that Seriously Might Happen

The 2010 comedy Hot Tub Time Machine only grossed $50 million on a $36 million budget but went on to become a surprise hit on Blu-Ray and DVD, and now the studio behind the original is considering making a sequel. Stars Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson, and Clark Duke are in “exploratory talks” to return, according to The Hollywood Reporter, but the original’s leading man John Cusack is not involved. The deal is still in the early stages, but Hot Tub Time Machine 1 director Steve Pink is in talks to direct again and to write the script with Corddry, who had no hand in writing the original. Corddry co-writing the script is definitely a step in the right direction for this unexpected sequel, and hopefully that means the second movie will have more of a Childrens Hospital-y vibe. But will people watch a Hot Tub Time Machine movie without John Cusack? I expect internet commenters to be as upset over a Cusack-less HTTM2 as they were over a Bill Murray-less Ghostbusters III.
