Just now at Comic-Con, Lionsgate showed off the new trailer for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire … and hey, whaddyaknow, the trailer went online at the same time! Want to look at it together? You’ll get a look at some subdued scenes between Katniss and her sister, plus a whole lot of setup that seems familiar from the first film — foppish interviews with Stanley Tucci, fiery dresses, dissolute advice from Woody Harrelson — that even culminates the same way the first movie’s trailer did: Katniss ascends to the playing field, the games begin, and we cut to black immediately. But you do glimpse some shirtless Finnick, which is new. And that moment where Effie flashes Katniss a look of real sympathy and regret … good stuff.
So what did we get at Comic-Con that you can’t discern from a click on the trailer below? Well, we got The Jennifer Lawrence Show, obviously.
It’s been far too long since J-Law’s Oscar press tour, and a concentrated dose of her winning self-deprecation was just what Hall H needed today. Some things haven’t changed for the recent Academy Award winner: “The hardest stunt for me is probably still just basic running,†cracked Lawrence. For Catching Fire, she also learned free running — the art of bouncing off buildings also known as parkour — “Which obviously I didn’t become an expert at.†In fact, Lawrence says she’s still struggling to master the archery that is Katniss’s stock in trade. “Do you remember,†she said to Josh Hutcherson, “when I hit myself in the face so hard with my bow that I flew backwards?â€
How did she feel about wearing Katniss’s ultra-elaborate “wedding dressâ€? “I loved it because it was understated,†she said, adding, “That’s sarcasm.†Though she appreciated the look of the garment, “Wearing it was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done in my life, and you can tell, I think. It was huge. Five feet in circumference. I’m not good at walking in giant dresses, as we know.â€
But the topic that really enlivened the panel was the romance between Katniss and Hutcherson’s Peeta. Or should we call it a showmance, since according to Hutcherson, Peeta accuses Katniss of faking it?
“It was complicated!†Lawrence yelped.
“It was an act! We’re not getting into this right now,†insisted Hutcherson.
One question put to the duo: How hot would the kisses be in the film? “Oh my God, we should have brought the clip with the snot,†said Lawrence. It seems that during the film’s resuscitation scene, when Katniss tries to revive Peeta … well, we’ll let them tell it.
“There was a lot of slobber,†said Hutcherson.
“There was a huge string of snot,†said Lawrence. “I’ll put it on YouTube or something, you gotta see it … there’s all this snot coming out of my nose, and when I go to kiss Josh, it connects with his mouth. So, yes, it’ll be very hot.â€
How did Hutcherson feel about that fluid exchange? “Not exchange!†said Hutcherson. “I took hers! She didn’t take my snot.â€
