Building upon Carl Sagan’s 1980 PBS series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage, Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey will premiere on Fox in spring 2014. Hosted by jocular astrophyicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, head of New York City’s Hayden Planetarium, it looks to be a trippy journey through time and space featuring a ton of animation. Expectedly, Sagan’s widow Ann Druyan will serve as executive producer and writer, alongside astronomer Steven Sotler — both of whom helped create the original Sagan series. Unexpectedly, Seth MacFarlane will also serve as executive producer, having helped get the series picked up by his network after an inspiring lunch with deGrasse Tyson. Does this mean we’ll get another Family Guy crossover episode? Don’t even think about putting Peter Griffin in a spacesuit.
