Michael Che Is Writing for ‘SNL’ Full-Time This Season

Fast-rising NYC standup Michael Che has joined the writing staff of Saturday Night Live. Since he started doing standup in 2010, Che won New York’s Funniest Stand-Up Competition, made his Letterman debut, was profiled by The New York Times, became a regular on VH1’s Best Week Ever reboot, and ranked first amongst New York comedians in a survey we at Splitsider conducted with stand-up hosts and bookers earlier this year.

He was hired as a guest writer at SNL for two weeks in February and was brought back for the last three episodes of the season, and now, he’s been hired onto the show’s writing staff full-time for the upcoming 39th season, which starts September 28th. During his stint as a guest writer last season, Che wrote, amongst other things, the “She’s Got a Dick” romantic comedy sketch from the Justin Timberlake episode. Other new writers this season include the iO Theater’s Claire Mulaney, Wild ‘N Out’s Mikey Day, and standup Brooks Wheelan.
