It was announced over the summer that Donald Glover would only be appearing in five episodes of the fifth season of Community, which is set to return to NBC in early 2014. The speculation at the time was that Glover would be focusing more on his rap career; his alter ego Childish Gambino is releasing an album this winter. But in a series of deeply personal notes posted to Instagram yesterday, Glover alluded to his departure from the cult hit show, writing “I didn’t leave Community to rap. I don’t wanna rap. I wanted to be on my own.†The notes also alluded to frustrations with his record label and included confessional entries about fears in his personal and professional lives.
