Fox has bought another animated comedy from Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. TV Guide reports that the network has ordered 13 episodes of show Bordertown produced by MacFarlane and created by Family Guy EP Mark Hentemann. The show will follow Bud Buckwald, a Border Patrol agent in a Texas border town and his next door neighbor, a Mexican immigrant named Ernesto Gonzales. The show will “take a satirical look at America’s cultural shifts through the evolving relationships between the two families.†The series is expected to debut sometime during the 2014-15 TV season and is the second network comedy ordered for next year already following NBC’s Tooken (tentative title), which was co-created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, stars Ellie Kemper and also received a 13-episode order.
The show has been in development at Fox for years, but the network will have room for it in its Sunday night animation block next year after MacFarlane’s other animated comedy, American Dad!, moves to TBS. Fox seems to be re-investing in its animated sitcoms; after dumping Murder Police before it even aired, the show is also working on a show with Flight of the Conchord’s Bret McKenzie. It’s also boosting its Saturday night animated block, with two new shows debuting this month and a deal in the works with up-and-coming LA comic Amber Tozer.
