Judd Apatow is gearing up to direct his fifth movie. Back in August, we reported that Apatow is producing a movie written by Amy Schumer for her to star in, but now, THR says the Schumer movie will be Apatow’s next directorial effort. Called Train Wreck, the film stars Schumer as a “basket case†trying to put her life back together. Apatow, Schumer, and producer Barry Mendel are currently casting the parts of the main character’s boyfriend, co-worker/best friend, and parent.
If Train Wreck makes it into production, it could be ready to hit theaters as soon as late 2014. This will be the first project Apatow will direct that he didn’t write, as he scripted his first four movies (The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Funny People, and This Is 40) himself. Although it doesn’t look like Apatow has a writing credit on this one as of now, he has been working with Schumer to develop the story and script.
Schumer’s Comedy Central series, Inside Amy Schumer, returns for its second season next year. Apatow is also developing a movie written by/starring the leads from another Comedy Central series, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele from Key & Peele.
