Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 creator Nahnatchka Khan has sold her second pilot following Fox’s Fatrick with Jim Rash and Nat Faxon. Based on the memoir by chef Eddie Huang, the 1990s-set Fresh Off The Boat focuses on “a Chinese family that moves to suburban Orlando. It centers on hip-hop-loving Eddie, raised by an immigrant father who is obsessed with all things American and an immigrant mother who is often bewildered by white culture. With his father owning and operating an All-American Steakhouse chain, this loving family of FOB (’fresh off the boat’) Taiwanese Americans try to live the American dream while still maintaining their cultural identity and sense of family.†The real-life Huang will also serve as a producer on the show.
In other ABC pilot news, the network has also ordered a multi-cam comedy from Chris Moynihan called Saint Francis about “a blue-collar, no-nonsense Long Island cop and family man who butts heads with the modern, liberal world when his 29-year-old sister gets pregnant out of wedlock.†Moynihan was also star and co-creator on the other ABC series Man Up! in 2011 and most recently appeared in Stephen Merchant’s now-canceled HBO series Hello Ladies.
