It may never have crossed your mind that New Jersey’s golden son would cover this year’s Grammy song of the year, but that’s exactly what Bruce Springsteen did in New Zealand. At a recent concert in Auckland, the Boss honored hometown darling Lorde by singing his own, rather gruff version of “Royals.†It makes sense, since both artists have been hyped as their generations’ working-class heroes. But while we’re sure Lorde was honored to hear the Boss sing her song, the combination of the cover and Bill de Blasio’s use of the music at his victory does seem to indicate that it’s becoming a favorite of the dad set. Hopefully she’ll keep it out of the SUV commercials.
