After 20 Feet From Stardom won the Oscar for Best Documentary, Darlene Love — one of the subjects of the film about backup singers — stepped forward and belted out the gospel hymn, “His Eye is on the Sparrow.†There is no way the orchestra would dare to (or could) compete with that.
