Last week it was announced that Chelsea Handler is planning to leave E! after her contract expires at the end of the year, and according to The Wrap, the Chelsea Lately host now has her sights set on the coveted Late Show gig. According to the report, while Handler’s initial plan was to have a Sirius XM radio show with a taped version available on Netflix, she’s also been in in talks with CBS to join their late night lineup for a while now – first on a syndicated show and then for Craig Ferguson’s 12:30 am slot. Since Letterman’s retirement announcement, however, Handler reportedly wants to take over the legendary late night time slot instead. While the move would first require Handler to prove she has a broader audience appeal than her E! show, the idea of hiring a woman to host either time slot is pretty exciting, though she’ll be competing with the likes of Stephen Colbert to get there. Handler has reportedly been fielding offers for a show on CNN, HLN, and FX, so if she doesn’t end up on CBS, it sounds like she won’t have trouble landing a show on another network.
