CBS has given a series order to How I Met Your Dad, THR reports. The show, a spinoff of the network’s long-running sitcom How I Met Your Mother, is the first new comedy CBS has ordered for the 2014-15 TV season.
How I Met Your Dad stars Greta Gerwig as the title character, with Nick D’Agosto, Andrew Santino, Tiya Sircar, and Drew Tarver making up the rest of the ensemble and Meg Ryan serving as the narrator. Workaholics’ Anders Holm will play a recurring role on the show, which is an indirect spinoff of How I Met Your Mother. HIMYD doesn’t feature any of the same characters, but has a similar title and premise and also shares the original show’s setting of MacLaren’s Pub.
How I Met Your Dad was created by How I Met Your Mother duo Carter Bays and Craig Thomas and Emily Spivey (Up All Night). Gerwig will also serve as a writer/producer on the show.
UPDATE: CBS is now denying these early reports from major outlets Variety, THR, and EW, saying that they have yet to reach a decision on the pilot.
