David Fincher’s Gone Girl beat back new releases Dracula Untold and Alexander and the Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Day to take the box office for the second weekend with $26.8 million, bringing its domestic total to $78.2 million. Dracula, which our critic called “Maleficent for dudes,†brought in $23.4 million, whereas Alexander came in third with $19.1 million. Last weekend’s runner-up, Annabelle, slipped to fourth with $16.3 million, which was still enough to beat out Robert Downey Jr.’s talky courtroom drama, The Judge, which debuted at a disappointing fifth place with just $13.3 million. Meanwhile, Gone Girl is on track to becoming Fincher’s highest grossing film since The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, which totaled $127.5 million by the end of its run.
