After making $400,000 in very limited release this weekend (it opened on just six screens), Sicario is already getting the franchise treatment: Variety reports that Lionsgate is working with director Denis Villeneuve to develop a sequel to the cartel drama. Details are sketchy, as the film literally opened four days ago, but at the moment the plan is for the sequel to follow Benicio del Toro’s silent assassin Alejandro. Sicario’s per-screen average already makes it a special case, but imagine the havoc that could be wreaked on Hollywood if the box-office bar for a sequel dips down to half a million dollars.
