Please, please, please let this catch on as a thing. Inspired by the internet’s love of reimagining beloved children’s characters as nattily dressed hipster 20-somethings, Rugrats storyboard artist Eric Molinsky wrote a piece for Studio360 in which he depicts the Nick show babies as the lumpy normos they undoubtedly grew up to be. “The Rugrats did not all grow up to be fashion models or self-confident hipsters,†Molinsky declares. “Especially not Chuckie.†(Ya burnt, Chuckie!) Seriously, though, how incredible would it be if revisiting your animated characters became a thing? I want to know what the Little Mermaid animators think of Hipster Ariel. She lives underwater, people! She wouldn’t wear glasses! Open your eyes!
