King Louie, the Chicago drill rapper often cited for creating the terms “Chiraq†and “Drillinois,†was shot in the head Wednesday in the city’s Ashburn neighborhood, according to reports. Police, as well as the artist’s management, told the Sun-Times that Louie (a.k.a. King L and Louis Johnson) was “awake and talking†in stabilized condition afterward. The 27-year-old had been rushed to a medical center after an unidentified gunman came up to his vehicle, shot him in the left side of the head, and fled earlier that afternoon.
The Tribune noted that there had been a handful of separate Wednesday shootings, which left two dead and four others wounded across the city, and that police were still investigating. Other details about Louie’s incident were not immediately available. But the rapper, who had recently made noise for releasing “Fuck Spike Lee,†tied to the filmmaker’s Chi-Raq project, was accumulating well wishes for a fast and full recovery from fellow Chicagoan Chance the Rapper and others, via social media, throughout the evening.
