ABC just ordered four new comedy pilots. According to Variety, the network has greenlit a Shonda Rhimes-produced comedy pilot called Toast, The Fluffy Shop from Gabriel Iglesias, an adaptation of the Austrian series Braunschlag called Hail Mary, and a dating comedy from Ed Weeks and Hannah Mackay.
From Greg Grunberg and Scandal’s Scott Foley, Toast is described as a “hybrid comedy†that centers on one couple’s road to marriage: “Over the course of Max and Page’s wedding rehearsal dinner, their eclectic family and friends give toasts recalling anecdotes about the couple — but flashbacks reveal the toasts don’t always get it right, as we watch the real story of their complicated, funny, and relatable road to marriage.†The Fluffy Shop is a multi-cam, semi-autobiographical comedy by and starring Gabriel Iglesias as a “stepfather and boss to his family and friends, while he navigates his home life during the few days he spends off the road each week.†Hail Mary centers on “a young small town mayor named Mary Wolf who has dysfunctional siblings, a dying father, disgruntled citizens, a nearly bankrupt town and the mafia breathing down her neck. Only a miracle can help her — so she fakes one.†The fourth pilot is an untitled single-cam comedy from Ed Weeks (The Mindy Project) and Hannah Mackay (Peep Show) and follows “an unapologetic lesbian and her best friend, a neurotic straight male, who navigate their dysfunctional co-dependent friendship and the world of dating.â€
The four new pilots join Chunk & Bean and Square Roots, which ABC ordered to pilot earlier this week.
