Last month, friends of LA-based standup Quincy Jones – who was diagnosed with stage 4 mesothelioma in July 2015 and told he would only live for one year – launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund his own standup special, and today the campaign has raised over $40,000 with three days left to go. Thanks to Ellen DeGeneres, though, the contributions are probably far from over. Jones appeared on today’s Ellen, where DeGeneres not only surprised him with a check for $10,000 but urged her viewers to contribute to the Kickstarter and made a direct appeal to HBO and Netflix: “If someone from HBO is watching or somebody from Netflix is watching, this guy is hilarious. Why don’t you air it on HBO? Why don’t you put it on Netflix?†Check out the full clip above.
