That Emma Stone–Jonah Hill comedy you read about last Friday was not, in fact, a TBS rerun of Superbad-induced fantasy. Netflix has given Maniac a ten-episode straight-to-series order. Cary Fukunaga (Beasts of No Nation, the good season of True Detective) will direct the series, which follows a man (Hill) who creates a dream world while institutionalized. Stone will play another patient with dreams, one assumes, of her own. Maniac still needs a writer to adapt the Norwegian original, but Netflix would prefer you ignore that and focus on the shiny actors and director instead.
